RUMAWIP, or Residensi Wilayah as it was recently rebranded as, is a government project that aims to give first-time homebuyers access to affordable housing.
Under the Rumawip – Residensi Wilayah plan, more schemes have been established to encourage Kuala Lumpur citizens to invest in properties. These programs align with the state government’s “house owning democracy” theory, which focuses especially on KL residents in the lower to middle income range who are looking for their first homes.
Nevertheless, the objectives are still the same: assisting low-income, middle-class, and first-time homebuyers in making their important first leap onto the property ladder.

Rumah Selangorku, a housing program situated in Selangor, was established to provide affordable housing options to eligible residents of the state. Selangor, being one of Malaysia’s most populous states, faces significant challenges regarding affordable housing, particularly for low and middle-income families.
To address this issue, Rumah Selangorku requires developers to include a specific number of affordable housing units in their projects. Led by Lembaga Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor (LPHS), the state’s housing organization, this project was introduced in 2014 with the aim of incentivizing developers to create affordable housing solutions.
These initiatives support LPHS’s goal of building high-quality, affordable housing to meet the housing needs of the community.
